Brenna Steels, B.Sc., N.D.

First and foremost, I am an ND. Being a primary healthcare provider, I treat a wide range of patients, from all ages, for all kinds of health concerns including; allergies, weight loss, cancer, fatigue, digestive disorders, musculoskeletal injuries and prevention of disease. As an ND, I always look for the underlying cause of your health concerns and treat those first allowing the body to then be able to heal itself. In 2016 I started the Thin and Healthy Weight Loss Program and have helped many people reach and maintain their healthy goal weight. In 2019 we won Diamond for Peterborough This Week Readers Select Award for best weight loss program in Peterborough.

I was born and raised in Unionville, Ontario. I am the youngest of three and have two older brothers. From a very young age I took an interest in natural health and wellness. Both my mother and I suffer from multiple chemical sensitivities and have had dramatic improvement in our health using natural therapies. This triggered my passion to continually educate myself and help others with this knowledge. I have been practicing Naturopathic Medicine in Peterborough since 2001.

I am married to a local Chiropractor, Dr. Aaron Balmer, and we have two wonderful children, Dexter and Reese. We love to be active together as a family so in the summer we spend time at our cottage in Apsley, water skiing, swimming, biking, boating, the children do triathlon training and a few races each summer. In the winter both children compete in downhill skiing, and reach competes in a wide variety of dance styles.

Carly Eagles, Technician

Born and raised in Peterborough, I attended Peterborough Collegiate and Vocational School. After highschool I pursued my passion for the environment, studying Aquatic Resource Management, Political Science and Sociology at St. Francis Xavier University. At this time, I also became very passionate about health and fitness, finding benefits for both my emotional and physical health through exercise and eating right. After graduating in 2011, I returned to Peterborough and worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources for the majority of the next 6 years. During this time I also studied Nutrition through Precision Nutrition and completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training.

In 2017, I returned to school at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Ottawa. I graduated with First Class Honours in the Fall of 2018 as a Holistic Nutritionist and returned to Peterborough to open my holistic nutrition practice, Sweet Simple Nutrition. A close friend told me that Dr. Steels was looking for an assistant and the timing was perfect! I’m so happy to be a part of this team of caring and compassionate women.

Becky Taylor, Office Manager

I started my career in customer service while in highschool, where I attended Unionville Highschool. Moving to Peterborough when I was 19 to attend Trent University, I studied Sociology and Environmental Science. I enjoyed these subjects immensely. The rising costs of education, made it imperative to have a part-time job, which eventually turned into a full-time position as my responsibilities increased. I was promoted to office manager at a busy professional photography studio where I spent the next 10 years. In 2010, my Mom was diagnosed with kidney cancer and very suddenly passed a way. I spent a great deal of time soul searching at this time in my life and stumbled upon some alternative cancer treatments/therapies. Personal interest and research in the topic of naturopathic medicine became a new hobby. I was depressed that the medical field had failed my Mom and was optimistic that there were other options out there, in circumstances that felt very hopeless.

A few years later I married and had a baby girl. I spent the next 3.5 years as a stay a home mom, and completed online courses in medical office administration and medical assisting. When a good friend of mine mentioned that Dr. Steels was looking for some help, I jumped at the opportunity. I have now been working along side Dr. Brenna Steels since 2016.
